Homemade Yogurt

Introduction:Homemade yogurt is a healthy source of protein, calcium, magnesium
and other essential vitamins, whose active bacterial cultures aid in digestion.

You can make yogurt  in your own home for a fraction of the cost of the typical
store-bought type and it requires no special equipment (other than a thermometer).

Why Homemade Yogurt ?

  • It tastes better
  • It's better for you (no preservatives, sugar or chemicals added)
  • It's less expensive
  • There's no packaging waste

Ingredients :

Half Gallon Of Milk (Pasturized)

2-3 tbs of plain yogurt (as a starter) - Must contain live and active culture.

Crock Pot Method:

Pour  half a gallon of milk into a crock pot.

Set on low for 2 1/2 hours.

Turn off the crock pot  and let it sit for 3 hours.

By this time the milk will be cooled enough to add the culture.

Add 1/2 cup of plain yogurt and stir in gently.

Cover and wrap the entire crock pot with a towel and let it sit for about 6 hours
or overnight.

Put in the refrigerator to cool and enjoy !

Note: 1)You can use your homemade yogurt in all kinds of yogurt recipes
              and smoothies.

2)You can even make frozen yogurt with it.

 Important :

1)Be sure to buy yogurt that contains live and active cultures.

2)Look for the National Yogurt Association's Live and Active Cultures (LAC) seal.

3)This seal identifies products that contain a significant amount of live and active cultures.

4)Also check the label for the freshest yogurt.

5)The closer you are to the "sell by" date the less beneficial bacteria will be found
   in your yogurt.

6)One of the advantages to making yogurt at home is that it will be fresher than
any yogurt you can buy at the store.
