Potato -Green Peas Kurma



Ingredients:
Potatoes - 3 to 4 (Medium Ones)
Frozen Green Peas - 1/2 Cup
Onion - 1 (Large Size)
Tomatoes - 2 (Medium Size)
Ginger-garlic Paste - 1 tbsp.
Curry Leaves - Few Stalks
Grated Coconut - 1/4 Cup
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp.
Fennel Seeds/Sombu - 1 tsp.
Poppy Seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp.
Red Chilli Powder - 2 tsp.
Coriander Powder - 1 tsp.
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp.
Salt - According To Taste
Oil - 2 tbsp.
Coriander Leaves - Few (To Garnish).

Method:

Peel the skin off from the potatoes and chop it into medium pieces and
soak it in the lukewarm water to avoid discoloration.Keep it aside.

Chop onions and tomatoes finely and set it aside.

Grind ginger and garlic into a fine paste.Keep it aside.

Heat a pan with some oil and add grated coconut and toast it until
golden brown.Set it aside.

In the same pan,add cumin seeds,fennel seeds and poppy seeds and
fry till nice aroma/smell comes.

In a mixie,add the toasted coconut,roasted cumin seeds,fennel seeds,
poppy seeds,red chilli powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder and
sufficient amount of water and blend it into a smooth paste.

Heat a pressure cooker with some oil and add the finely chopped onions,
curry leaves and a pinch of salt and fry till the onions turn light brown.

Add ginger-garlic paste and fry till the raw smell goes away.

Now add finely chopped tomatoes and a pinch of salt and saute
till the tomatoes are mushy.

Add the grounded paste with some salt and stir it well.Let it cook till the
mixture turns dry.

Then add the chopped potatoes and frozen green peas and mix it
well.Check for seasoning.

Close the pressure cooker and cook for 2 whistles.Wait for the
pressure to release.

When the pressure is released,stir the kurma slowly with a wooden
spoon and turn on the stove (medium flame).

Add garam masala and cook for another 2 mins.

Garnish with some coriander leaves.

Potato-green peas kurma is ready.

Serve it hot with chapathi,roti,naan,poori,bhatura,idiyappam,appam or dosa.

Note:

       Coconut milk can be also be used instead of fresh coconut.
       
       If using coconut milk,you can directly blend the roasted ingredients along
        with some thick coconut milk and add it to the kurma.

       Coconut milk is available in all the Indian stores and also in Walmart,Target
       and Kroger  in the Asian Food Aisle.
